Fine lines – workbook!
I am not making a big discovery by saying that it is the fine lines that are the most problematic to all new stylists: both professionals and those who just like to play with different nail embellishments at home.
Fine lines are indeed extremely difficult to learn – but unfortunately if you want to get involved with Nail Art, you need to master them. Without fine lines it would be difficult to complete any design: neither One Stroke or Zhostovo (the outline and the stems are indeed fine lines) nor icons (face outline – it’s a fine line again), nor geometric or typical floral designs… we need to use fines lines in one way or another in all of them.
The more subtle they are – the better, because very often their aim is only to give the design a slight contrast and a 3D effect, so they should not be noticeable at first glimpse.
As I know that you have probably had many sleepless nights because of that (alright, maybe I’m exaggerating) I have decided to help… by presenting you with a new workbook – which is simply a set of exercises.
What is it about?
IT’S VERY SIMPLE.
First of all there is some theory.
I briefly discuss such issues as:
-General characteristics of brushes
-Specific types of bristles
-Available product selection options
-Preparing the work station
-Basic rules of using a brush
-Looking after the brush once you have finished work
Next it’s time to practice!
There are patterns drawn on special sheets of carefully-selected material (they are not ordinary laminated sheets of paper – their structure does not resemble the restructure of a nail, so practising on such material would be pointless!).
There are 96 of them in very easy to use A5 format.
They include: geometric designs, abstract designs, butterflies, flowers, dreamcatchers, bows, hearts, lacing, feathers, dragonflies, birds, wings.. a WIDE selection!
I have ordered them in ascending order of difficulty.
Your initial task is to copy the design I drew, and then to draw it on a “blank nail”.
If it doesn’t go too well – that’s alright! You wipe the “nail” and draw it again. And again. And again. Until you succeed!
What are the benefits of using this workbook?
1. It helps you practise your technical skills. I mean systematically learning popular types of designs and perfecting their shapes. The designs purposefully combine fine, extra fine and moderately thick lines. You can only learn how to use a brush perfectly if SOMETHING (i.e. the design) forces you to create a line of an exact thickness.
2. Moreover, the workbook may be a source of inspiration. If you don’t have an idea for your own design, don’t force yourself: just change the colours and angle of the lines on one of the nails from the book to make your design special and unique!
3. Thirdly, there is also the composition aspect. Newbies in the industry (or stylists who love the technical aspects of nail art and don’t like embellishments too much) often have problems with creating a design. They don’t know where to put a petal, where to add a leaf… and generally get lost in the creative process. This workbook helps you develop simple patterns that you can easily transform onto your clients’ nails. Just like “copy – paste”
